Frequently Asked Questions
- Your PDF is uploaded to our server, text content is extracted using pdf-parse, and we apply heuristics to identify headings and format the output as Markdown. The file is immediately discarded after processing.
- The maximum upload size is 5MB. This covers the vast majority of documents, reports, and research papers. Image-heavy PDFs may be smaller in text content than their file size suggests.
- Not currently. We extract embedded text from PDFs. Scanned PDFs (images of text) require OCR, which is not included in this tool. Only PDFs with selectable text are supported.
- Basic text layout is preserved. Complex tables from PDFs may not convert perfectly to Markdown tables because PDFs store tables as positioned text, not structured data.
- Yes — this is the primary use case. Extracting text from a research PDF as Markdown lets you paste it into Claude, GPT, or any LLM for summarization, Q&A, or analysis.
- No. Your PDF is processed in memory and immediately discarded. We do not save, index, or share any uploaded files.
